“Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:5. What did Jesus mean when he said we are to be “poor in spirit”? Jesus is simply talking about someone who recognizes himself as spiritually bankrupt in the sight of God. It literally means that we come to the end of our self-reliance. You will never discover the true riches of the Christian life, until you admit your bankrupt condition before heaven. And I know that some of us do not want to admit that. Let me remind you of something: God created the world from nothing. This is His nature. In other words, He can not make anything out of you until the day you become nothing. So if you are struggling and wondering why God hasn’t done anything in your life, I encourage you to ask yourself, am I nothing? Have you admitted that you are a lost sinner in the sight of God? That you have nothing to offer Him? If you think you can get to heaven any other way, you are mistaking. You don’t know how Holy God is and how sinful you are. Have a wonderful day!
