How many times have we wished that we could overcome the addiction or compulsion that keeps us in bondage? We know what it is like to struggle with the effects of addiction and the craziness this brings to our life. We may feel despair and wonder if there really is any way out of the insanity of our current circumstances. Maybe our plight is impossible, at least without God’s help, but faith can make even the impossible happen.
“One day the apostles said to the Lord, ‘We need more faith; tell us how to get it.’ ‘Even if you had faith as small as a mustard seed,’ the Lord answered, ‘you could say to this mulberry tree, “May God uproot you and throw you into the sea,” and it would obey you!'” (Luke 17:5-6). Matthew also recorded Jesus’ words: “I assure you, even if you had faith as small as a mustard seed you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible” (Matthew 17:20).
Faith is a mysterious commodity. Jesus says that if we have faith, real faith, it only takes a small amount to make a big difference. We may be exercising faith without even realizing it. It takes faith to believe that a Power greater than ourself could restore us to sanity. It takes faith to work through the steps of a recovery program. It is comforting to know that God only needs a tiny bit of faith in order to work in powerful ways to restore our sanity.
After reading the Scripture from the Gospel of Luke and Matthew it is important to understand the measure of faith. Here Jesus illustrates nothing more than a mustard seed can accomplish great and mighty things. As individuals our faith measures differently in comparison. This would further bring light to God’s distribution of Spiritual gifts. If you aren’t satisfied with the amount of faith in your heart I encourage you to earnestly pray about it. Continue to seek God’s wisdom and it will be revealed right before your eyes.
God bless you all
